Angelic Hierarchy
The "Holy Order" was first written down in the fifth century by
Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. He studied the Book of Enoch
as well as many other Christian and Jewish texts in an attempt to
clarify the ranking system of angels.
He came up with nine choirs of angels arranged into three groups
or triads. The choirs of the first triad are always in the presence of God
and are known as "The Faithful". According to St. Thomas,
the angels of the first triad, never come down to earth.
The First Triad
Seraphim
Cherubim
Thrones
The Second Triad
Dominions
Virtues
Powers
The Third Triad
Principalities
Archangels
Angels
The First Triad
Seraphim- are said to be the closest angels to God and
their main objective is to encircle the throne of God while
chanting the Kadosh- which is a famous Hebrew prayer
still used today (Holy, Holy, Holy ) According to Enoch,
there are a total of 4 seraphim which correspond to the four winds
of the earth. They appear as beings of perfect light, so brilliant that
few humans are able to look upon them. They have been described
by the few prophets who have claimed to see them as " flaming angels"
According to Pseudo-Dionysis, Seraphim means-those that warm and
those that burn. They are the angels of love, light and fire.
Cherubim- guardians of stars and the path to The Tree of Life.
The word Cherubim means- those who intercede and fullness of
knowledge. The prophet Ezekiel, described them as having four faces
and four wings ( Ezekiel 1:6 ) Many have described them as half human
and half beast. They are also the first angels mentioned in the Old Testament
(Genesis 3 :22 )
Thrones- are also known as Ophanim, act as God's transportation. There
purpose? To transfer energy. They focus this energy to people who need
healing energy and who seek justice. They are the organizing and ministering
angels. But they send this energy thru our personal guardian angels and not
directly to us.
The Second Triad
The angels of the second triad are said to be organizing and ministering angels,
however they are more concerned with the universe as a whole than in individuals,
but have been said to assist on earth as required.
Dominions- They carry the orders given by the angels of the first triad and carry orbs
and scepters as symbols of their authority.
Virtues- Provide courage, strength, and motivation. They enable people to achieve more
than they think they can and provide spiritual energy.
Powers- They protect heaven and are considered warrior angels. They ensure that the laws
of the universe remain in operation and help us make decisions between right and wrong.
The Third Triad
The angels of the third triad are said to be the angels most involved with life on earth.
Principalities- Have the responsibility of looking after continents, nations, countries
and other large groups. They are in constant communication with heaven , transferring information. They are also said to be in charge of making sure world leaders receive
good advice and act with wisdom.
Archangels- It is said that the archangels are the most important messengers of God. In
Islam, four archangels are recognized, but the Christian religions consider seven angels
to be archangels. Each has a name and special duties they are responsible to perform.
Angels-They are assigned to individuals and are referred to as Guardian Angels. They are present when we are born and stay with us until our death. If we need help our guardian can request assistance from God or other angels.
