My personal opinion is that historical research into what may or may not have occured on a property in the past is of significance....If there are rumors or legends about a place that might be contributing to what people may or may not be experiencing it might provide clues to confirm or debunk ( I hate that word LOL) a claim. I also think that historical research can provide testimony to previous claims from others in the past about experiences that may have been reported that the current occupants may or may not be aware of. I personally find historical research almost if not more exciting than doing the actual investigation, but thats just me I think history and science have to work together in order to make more sense and fill in the holes that might bring us to an acceptable conclusion. And the mystery of looking for clues in documentation, is that not what makes a good investigator? I hope you will elaborate on how you feel about historical research meshing with paranormal and scientific research. Happy Haunting!

Yes historical research is a must for any investigation that you do. It is like you said Angie you can validate claims of what may be happening by backing it up with historical research. I do not see how you can investigate without doing research. If you are not doing research you aren't investigating in my honest opinion.

Well I have seen this subject argued on other boards that history has no place in paranormal research that everything should be strictly scientific and that history sometimes taints and that knowing the history of a place might cause you to form opinions about activity and can cause you to assume that the history of a place makes it haunted ....but I personally dont agree with that argument and until someone gives me a reason that makes sense as to why history should not be included , I shall stand firm in my current opinion of it LOL.

History is a must, if possible. It gives you insight on the location and can give you places to check out that you might have missed otherwise. Also the geography and topography help too.
