ORWOOD Lafayette Co. Located in the southwest corner of the county, it was first established in 1837 by the Green Mckie Family. They were among the first white settlers to arrive at this portion of the Chickasaw Cession after the treaty of Pontotac Creek of 1828-38. The community was named Orwood after the Orr's family who were the among the first settlers to open a post office. The post office closed in 1908. the Orwood Sand Spring Presbyterian Church built in 1854 was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 The cemetery Orrwood Cemetery is on part of the original 17 3/4 acres. The first burial was Joseph Capps in 1854.
