Are there any good places to investigate in the Pearl/Brandon area? Does anyone know of anything around here? It's that time of year again when I get so excited about hunting!

I don't know of any public places. Try going on a local ghost tour if they have one in the area. I know Vicksburg has a great walking/driving tour you can go on. They take you to all the "alleged" spots around town. I'm not sure if Brandon/Pearl/Jackson has one or not.

They don't have on that I am aware of. The paranormal seems to be taboo around here. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree in this area. I have gotten permission to investigate the Vicksburg National Military Park, but the price is a good bit with so few members. Being a veteran and history buff, Vicksburg would be my heaven haha.

I know what you mean about taboo. It is like that up here in NOrth MS but you just have to be patient and take historical tours, and get your foot in the door so to speak. I have heard that it is pricey to get onto the Military Park. I am a avid history buff as well. I love taking tours of any kind.
Do you have a local group?

I guess you could call us a local group. It's just 4 of us and we started doing it out of boredom one night and BAM! It kind of stuck with us. We really aren't too organized. We have one camcorder (terrible quality), a few voice recorders, K-2 meter, Laser grid, and few other small things. We don't really have much money to put in towards new equipment so we have to do with what we've got. We even investigated one house with 4 Iphones with decent results, haha. We love what we do, we would just like to be more structured and have more guidance. We really don't have an outreach to find new places to investigate, but we love it when we do.

Your best tool is yourself. We have the basics and a DVR unit. Any questions we can help you answer we will be glad to help you the best to our ability.

Do you have any tips on how to keep documentation of investigations organized? We have a problem of everything getting mixed together and it gets very confusing.

Create a file for each investigation and number it. For example our case numbers are the year followed by which number investigation it is along with the date of investigation. ie: 1103 100511. The key is each case you have keep a case file on it. Have every person who attended do their individual investigator reports. Document the preliminary, investigation , conclusions, and reveals. That way if you ever have to refer back to a case you just pull that folder and there it is. Hope that helps.

Thank you! That will help a lot. Is there any audio reviewing software you would reccomend? We use audacity and it seems to work OK but it feels very limited. We also don't have any video reviewing software. We just wing it, haha.

As for audio software we use Adobe Audition (but it's pricey) some of us do use Audacity and it works well. As far as video software we dont use any. We just watch the video and if we see something interesting or unusual we mark the time down off the dvr or camcorder and then go back and clip it out and save it to a mem stick. Angie does the majority of our video review but as for software for video we dont have any.

Thanks! You're tons of help. I'm glad I found this forum. Do you have any suggestions on how to set up equipment on a residential investigation?

I will tell you a good way to get started in the field on how to do investigations (Residential and Non Residential) is to get The Ghosthunters Guidebook by Troy Taylor. It is chok full of valuable information. All of our members are required to read it and we follow those protocols laid out in it. We refer back to it alot and it sorta like our paranormal bible so to speak. You can find it on www.prairieghosts.com/ghh.htmlThere is also another good book where we utilize alot of stuff from as well it is called The Paranormal Investigators Logbook. by Kelly Davis Since Angela and I are members of the American Ghost Society we follow their guidelines in regards to investigating. We do have our own methods as well but the foundations between us and the AGS are pretty much the same. Hope that helps. Good luck in your endevors!
